The Scott Paper Company is a USA-based corporation which manufactures mostly paper based consumer products.

Scott Paper was founded in 1879 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by brothers E. Irvin and Clarence Scott, and is often credited as being the first to market toilet paper sold on a roll. They began marketing paper towels in 1907, and paper napkins in the 1930s.

In 1995 Scott Paper merged with Kimberly-Clark which continues to use the Scott brandname. Scott Paper Limited, formerly a Canadian subsidiary, is no longer affiliated.

Slim·Fast® is a brand of shakes, bars, snacks, packaged meals, and other dietary supplement foods sold in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, France, Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, and Latin America by Unilever. Slim·Fast® promotes diets and weight loss plans featuring its food products.

Slim·Fast® was started in 1977 by S. Daniel Abraham as part of the Thompson Medical Group. In 1987, Abraham took the brand private, and it was acquired by Unilever in 2000.

Slim·Fast® struggled, as did many diet foods in 2002 with the rise of low-carb diets, with a drop in sales during one year of 21 percent. The brand responded in 2004 with a line of low-carb items that were designed to capture this market and also introduced Slim-Fast Optima products which were lower in sugar than the standard Slim·Fast® products.

Slim·Fast® used the phrase “a shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch, then a sensible dinner” for many years to describe the use of the products within the Slim·Fast® plan. With the addition of snacks and an approach that allows for different calorie plans, the brand now advocates a more flexible system. The brand has recently become focused on achieving success through tying its use to the Best Life Diet. There is evidence from a 2003 study that Slim-Fast is successful at achieving long-term weight loss for those that follow the diet.

For years Breyers was known for its short, all-natural ingredients list. This featured prominently in an advertising campaign where a child would attempt to read the ingredients from another brand, experiencing extreme difficulty pronouncing the artificial additives. He then turned to the Breyers list and quickly rattled off the four ingredients (in their vanilla at the time): milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla. In recent years as part of cost cutting measures since the acquisition by Unilever, the list has expanded to include: Tara gum, Guar gum, ice-structuring proteins, mono and diglycerides, corn-syrup, and whey sourced from meat-based rennet. As a result of the use of whey, Breyers All Natural Ice Cream is no longer acceptable for vegetarians. Additionally, the carton size has shrunk from the classic half-gallon to one-and-a-half quarts.

Breyers is sometimes confused with Dreyer’s, a Nestle brand. While William Breyer founded his ice cream on the east coast, another man, William Dreyer, founded an ice cream company on the west coast. As the two brands increased their reach across the country, a similarity of name issue was inevitable. In 1981, Dreyer’s made the decision not to sell Dreyer’s branded products in the east. In an agreement with Breyers, Dreyer’s sought to market its product east of the Rocky Mountains under the “Edy’s Grand” name. However, Breyers made no similar reciprocal agreement, and by the mid-1980s began to distribute Breyers ice cream to states throughout the midwestern and western United States. As a result, both Breyers and Dreyer’s can be found on grocery shelves in western states.

William Shepphard of New York, New York, was granted patent number 49,561 for his “Improved Liquid Soap” on August 22, 1865, for his discovery that a small amount of conventional soap could be mixed with large amounts of hartshorn to create a soap with a consistency of molasses. His invention became common in public areas, but could generally not be found in homes. Some time later, the Minnetonka Corporation began to offer Crème Soap on Tap in attractive ceramic dispensers through boutique distributors.

The product was a success, and the corporation followed up in 1980[citation needed] with a similar product designed for mass retail sale. Source/Inc. was consulted to produce the brand. They created the Softsoap name and designed a package that included a distinctive custom pump bottle with a cap that obviated the need for a secondary carton to enclose the product. The package made it very easy to spot on store shelves when nearly all other soaps were in bar form. Minnetonka extended their hold on the liquid soap market by buying the entire supply of plastic pumps.

In 1987, Colgate-Palmolive purchased the liquid soap business from Minnetonka.

Hunt’s is the name of a brand of preserved tomato products owned by ConAgra Foods, Inc. The company was founded in 1888, in Sebastopol, California, as the Hunt Bros. Fruit Packing Co. by Joseph and William Hunt. The brothers relocated to nearby Santa Rosa in 1890, and then to Hayward in 1895. This small canning operation grew rapidly, focused on canning the products of California’s booming fruit and vegetable industries.

In 1943, Hunt’s was taken over by Norton Simon’s Val Vita Food Products – a competing firm founded in the early 1930s. The merged firm kept the Hunt’s name and incorporated as Hunt Foods, Inc. The new management decided to focus the company on canned tomato products, particularly prepared tomato sauce.

Hunt’s later merged with Wesson (producer of cooking oil) to form Hunt-Wesson Foods, which later merged with Beatrice Foods. The brand was sold to ConAgra along with many other former Beatrice brands in 1990.

Besides canned tomato sauce, the Hunt’s brand appears on tomato paste, diced, whole, stewed, and crushed tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, ketchup, barbecue sauce, and their Family Favorites line of canned recipe helpers. It also is the brand name appearing on ConAgra’s Manwich brand sloppy joes products as well as Hunt’s Snack Pack Pudding.
